Meet Our Team
Michael Joseph Herald, DMD
Dr. Joe Herald grew up in Fort Thomas, KY, where he attended Highlands High School. He went on to college at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta and graduated from Huntingdon college in Montgomery, AL in 2003. He then went to get his D.M.D. at the University of Kentucky where he graduated in 2007. He was the only student in his class to receive the Student Award of Merit from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He worked as an associate dentist for a few years in Lexington, KY before coming home and opening his own private practice in 2009.
Dr. Herald is an avid basketball fan. In the past he has helped coach the Highlands Freshman basketball team, and continues to sponsor youth basketball leagues and the Highlands summer basketball camp. Dr. Herald is active in his church and community. He has served as a volunteer dentist with the Ida Spence Mission, helping provide dental care to community members in need.
Dr. Herald is married to his wife Danielle, and they have two beautiful daughters Avery and Makenzie, ages five and three. In his free time he enjoys golfing, trail running, or any other physical activity where he can be outside.
Michael Rolf, DMD
Dr. Rolf grew up in Campbell County and graduated from Newport Central Catholic High School in 2006. He completed his education at the University of Louisville with both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He graduated in 2014 at the top of his class, excelling in cosmetic and implant dentistry. Dr. Rolf is passionate about helping patients achieve a beautiful and healthy smile. Many patients are impressed with the excellent chair side manner and the comfort they feel while being treated. During the consultation appointment, Dr. Rolf will make sure to clearly diagnose and explain treatment options with the patient. Dr. Rolf has obtained certifications and credentialing from four implant programs around the country, and he prides himself on being up to date with the latest advanced dental implant technology and research.
In his spare time, Dr. Rolf has no shortage of things to keep himself busy. He enjoys spending time with his wife Abbey and can be found being a DJ at weddings and events around the area. He also runs his bow tie company, BeauxTied, which raises money for muscular dystrophy and epilepsy in honor of two of his cousins who lost their battle to those diseases.
Ann Shackelford, DDS
We would like to welcome Dr. Ann Shackelford to our practice! Dr. Shackelford earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Indiana University in 1998 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology from Butler University, and Master of Science in Biology from Purdue University. While in dental school, she was awarded the Organization of Teachers of Oral Diagnosis Award.
She has served as a missionary dentist in Haiti and Mexico and as a mobile dentist for Indiana school children. Dr. Shackelford has practiced general and cosmetic dentistry for 21 years and recently relocated to Kentucky. She values providing comfortable, gentle dental care and encouraging you to participate in your care through education and prevention to keep your visits to a minimum. Her goal is to not only to address your immediate concerns, but to provide quality comprehensive planning that will give you viable options to meet your long term dental needs.
When Dr. Shackelford is not practicing dentistry, she enjoys fitness, travel, and is an avid racing fan and animal lover.
Dr. Shackelford will be seeing patients in our office on Wednesdays. We can’t wait for you to meet her!
Katie grew up in Fort Thomas and graduated from Highlands High School. After high school she became a dental assistant and fell in love with dentistry. She graduated with a dental hygiene degree from the University of Cincinnati in 2012, with honors.
When Katie is not in the office she can be found hiking and traveling with her husband and daughter. She also enjoys laughing with her friends and curling up with a good book.
Courtney Plymesser, Dental Hygienist
Courtney grew up and currently resides in Ripley, Ohio where she graduated high school in 2013. She furthered her education by attending UC Clermont in Batavia Ohio, where she earned an associates of arts in 2014. She then transferred to Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio and earned her dental hygiene degree in 2016. She graduated at the top of her class in 2017 with her bachelors of health science and bachelors of individualized studies.
When she isn't working, Courtney loves to workout and maintain a healthy lifestyle. She loves traveling with friends and family and has visited over 40 different states. She takes interest in outdoor activities and baking/cooking. She also would like to further her education in hopes of promoting dental health to not only her patients but the communities around us.

Amber Kleier, Office Manager
Amber was born and raised in Fort Thomas where she currently resides. She graduated from Northern Kentucky University, in 2004, with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. After working in the criminal justice field for several years, she opted for a career change. Longtime friend, Dr. Herald, happened to be opening his own dental practice and offered her a position. She has been the office manager for Herald Family Dentistry since the day it opened in 2009, which has allowed her to enjoy the growth, changes, and progress that Dr. Herald has made in his career. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, decorating, working out, and spending time with her husband and two little boys.

Kayla Fornash, Front Desk
Kayla grew up in Alexandria, Ky and attended Campbell County High School where she graduated in 2013. She attended two years at Gateway Community and Technical College, while working full time at Bob Evans in Cold Spring. As she was serving Dr. Herald at the restaurant, it came up that she was interested in joining the dental field. A few months later, she joined Dr. Herald's team and has worked with us since April of 2015.
Outside of work, she is an avid dog lover. Her and her fiance, Logan, center their lives around their dog, Chief. She enjoys hiking, drawing, skiing and cooking. Her dream is to one day own a mini farm and rescue animals.

Tanya Bricking, Dental Hygienist
Tanya Bricking grew up in Ft. Thomas, Ky and attended Highlands Higschool. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati - Raymond Walters, with her Dental Hygiene degree in 2003. She loves educating patients about their oral health while also helping them to feel at ease in the dental chair.
Tanya's two sons, Cole and Jake both attend St Joseph school in Cold Spirng. They are active in soccer, basketball and baseball. When Tanya is not in the dental office, she and her husband Craig own a catering/mobile food company called "It's Just Brick's." They enjoy cooking, traveling and playing golf with their sons!
Traci Cain, Front Desk
Traci grew up in Fort Thomas, KY and currently resides in Cold Spring. She comes to Herald Family Dentistry with 25 years experience in front desk administration. Traci is married to her high school sweetheart, Jim. They have three boys together, Jacob, Joshua, and Hunter and a fur baby Harper. When Traci isn't working she enjoys watching her son Hunter play sports and spending time with family and friends.
Megan Lackmeyer, Assistant
Meg began her career in the dental field in 2005. She is a graduate of Wilmington College with a bachelor's degree in Science. Meg obtained her Expanded Duties Dental Assistant Certification from University of Kentucky and Coronal Polishing Certification from University of Louisville. She enjoys getting to know her patients and makes them feel comfortable and confident about their procedures.
